Hello webmasters, please I have a sort of delimma on what commenting system to use for my website. As a web developer, do you think its better I create/code up a custom user commenting system OR use a third-party commenting system like Facebook comments API or Disqus? Which would you use, what are the pros and cons of creating it or using a third-party?

I think to save both your time and that of the user, you should use a third party commenting system, the two you mentioned above are perfect.
No need for the user to register or drop email on every single website he wants to comment, and no need for you as the dev to waste time creating a commenting system, you can use that time to concentrate on other parts of your app.
For me, a trusted third party is the best way to go...

Hmn, i think it depends on what you are trying to do. If all you want is a commenting system, disqus is the best way to go - saves your life.

Thanks @thirdtwist... That would be considered, perhaps to save time as you've said, I'll use the third party method and along the way, if a need arises for a custom commenting system, then it could be developed.

Thanks too @dhtml, well, its a platform where users share their posts either as registered users or anonymous and others comment on it with an identification. So there's a need for user registration nway, if they are to submit their posts with little or no approval while anonymous users would need approval for their posts.

disqus is best, except you are building a special platform like Africoders.
