Africoders is the Career Operating System for African Builders — not a viral social feed. These guidelines apply to communities, challenges, collaboration, Passport projects, expert sessions, and messaging. Breaking them can lead to content removal, feature limits, or account suspension under our Acceptable Use Policy.
1. Be professional
Critique work, not people. Assume good intent unless evidence says otherwise. Disagreements about stacks, hiring, or product choices are welcome when they stay specific and respectful.
- No personal attacks, insults, or pile-ons.
- No hate speech, discrimination, or harassment based on identity, nationality, gender, religion, or disability.
- Keep humour kind — jokes that demean groups or individuals do not belong here.
2. Share proof honestly
Execution Reputation and Builder Passports only work if evidence is real. Inflated claims waste recruiters’ time and erode trust for everyone.
- Describe projects you actually shipped. Label prototypes, forks, and tutorial rebuilds clearly.
- Credit collaborators, open-source authors, and mentors when their work is part of your story.
- Do not invent employers, titles, metrics, or challenge outcomes.
- Keep demos runnable when you link them — dead links look like negligence.
3. Protect privacy
Member community activity is intentional, not a public scrapyard. Respect the boundaries people set.
- Do not share private messages, screenshots of DMs, or personal contact details without consent.
- Do not post employer secrets, customer data, API keys, or confidential roadmaps.
- Honour Passport visibility settings — private profiles are not “content to leak.”
- Be careful with minors and students: no pressure for off-platform contact or unsafe asks.
4. Collaborate with clarity
Collaboration rooms, challenges, and Studio briefs succeed when expectations are written down.
- State scope, hours, timezone overlap, and definition of done up front.
- Follow through on commitments — or communicate early when plans change.
- Do not ghost teammates after accepting work; close the loop politely.
- Recruiters and founders: outreach should reference specific Passport proof, not spam templates.
5. No spam or manipulation
- No mass unsolicited DMs, affiliate dumps, or crypto/NFT pump schemes.
- No vote brigading, fake endorsements, or manufactured reputation.
- No scraping member directories or bypassing access controls.
- Promotional posts belong only where the product allows them — and must be clearly labelled.
6. Report problems
Use in-product reporting where available, or email support@africoders.com. Include links, usernames, and screenshots when safe. We review reports seriously and may act without public debate.
False reports filed to harass someone are themselves a guidelines violation.
