This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which categories Africoders uses, how long choices last, and how to change your mind. Manage preferences anytime on Cookie settings. Personal data more broadly is covered in our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Similar technologies include local storage, pixels, and SDKs. They help Africoders stay signed-in, stay secure, remember preferences, and — only with permission — measure product usage or ads.
2. Strictly necessary
Required for authentication, CSRF protection, load balancing, consent storage, and core features. These stay on and are not used for advertising. Blocking them in your browser may break sign-in.
3. Functional
Optional. Remembers preferences such as theme. Independent from analytics and marketing — you can allow functional cookies while rejecting measurement.
4. Analytics
Optional. When you allow analytics we may use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID configured in the application environment) and first-party operational telemetry for product improvement.
- We do not send message bodies, passwords, or payment card data to Google Analytics.
- Analytics storage follows Google Consent Mode defaults (denied until you choose).
- Events help us understand which Career OS surfaces work — not to build advertising profiles from your inbox.
5. Marketing
Optional and separate from analytics. Controls advertising-related storage signals (for example ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization when those tags are present). Rejecting marketing does not turn off necessary cookies or your account.
6. Technologies we use
- First-party session and consent cookies (including
africoders_consentand Laravel session cookies). - Google Analytics 4 / gtag on the web, when analytics consent is granted.
- Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics on native mobile apps, when you enable them in app privacy settings (requires a native build, not Expo Go).
- Africoders first-party activity events for admin operations and reliability — not sold as advertising data.
7. Retention
Consent choices are stored for up to 12 months or until you change them. Raw operational activity events are pruned on a configured schedule (default about 30 days) after rollups. Application issue records may be retained longer for reliability (default about 180 days) then archived. Exact windows are set by environment configuration and may vary.
8. Change or withdraw consent
Use Cookie settings in the footer at any time. Rejecting optional cookies is as easy as accepting. We re-prompt only when the consent policy version materially changes. Browser controls can also clear cookies; clearing all cookies may sign you out.
9. Regional configuration
Default consent signals deny analytics and ads until a choice is made. Regional policy defaults can be adjusted by configuration (CONSENT_DEFAULT_REGION) without assuming every visitor falls under a single jurisdiction. This interface supports regional policy configuration; it is not legal advice or a compliance certification.
