Need a designer for a weekend hackathon project

A local hackathon is happening in two weeks and I have an idea around simplifying transcript requests for university students, but I'm backend and frontend logic only, no design eye whatsoever. Looking for someone who can help with the UI over the weekend, doesn't need to be a professional, just someone who cares about how it looks and flows. Message me if interested and we can talk through the idea first.

Question 1 week ago

Is paying to be seen more different from paying to skip the line

If a platform ever let builders pay a small amount to get more visibility on their profile or a project post, does that undermine trust in the whole feed, or is it fine as long as merit still decides what actually happens once someone looks? I keep going back and forth on this. It feels different from paying for a fake credential, but I can't fully articulate why.

Rebuilding the quiz engine for the third time

The first version hardcoded question types, the second one got flexible but slow, and now I'm trying a third approach based on a simple scoring plugin pattern. It's humbling how many times you can be wrong about the right abstraction before a project tells you what it actually needs. No demo yet, still mid-rewrite.

Added rate limiting after a bot hit the API overnight

Woke up to a spike in server load from a script hammering one endpoint thousands of times overnight, nothing malicious looking, probably just a badly written scraper. Added a basic rate limiter per IP this morning and it already looks calmer. A reminder that public endpoints need this from day one, not after something happens.

Splitting freelance work into milestones saved a project that was going sideways

Halfway through a client project the requirements kept shifting week to week, and if I'd quoted the whole thing upfront I'd have eaten every change for free. Because I'd split it into four paid milestones with sign-off at each stage, the scope creep became a paid conversation instead of a silent resentment. Slower to set up at the start, much less painful by the end.

Question 3 weeks ago

Aggregated skill trends without selling anyone's personal data, is that actually possible

Been thinking about whether a platform could publish something useful like 'demand for backend skills in this region grew this quarter' from anonymised, aggregated activity, without that ever meaning anyone's individual profile or activity is being sold to a third party. Feels like there's a real difference between insight and surveillance here, but I know the line can get blurry in practice. How would you build that in a way people could actually trust?
