About this role

Africoders is hiring a Frontend Engineering Intern to join our product team for a practical 2-month (8-week) internship. You will work on the real Africoders platform — not a tutorial project — contributing across Learn → Build → Grow. Expect production frontend work: improve existing experiences, ship features, consume REST APIs, fix UI issues, and land code through Git and pull requests. The internship follows: Learn → Build → Ship → Review. By the end, you should have meaningful contributions to a live product and demonstrable frontend engineering experience. What you'll do • Build and improve React interfaces on Africoders • Integrate frontend features with existing REST APIs • Fix UI, responsive, and mobile UX issues • Develop reusable components that match existing patterns • Handle loading, empty, error, and success states • Work with Git/GitHub: branches, pull requests, code review • Test your work before submitting PRs • Collaborate with the Africoders product and engineering team Possible work areas include course/learning UI, challenges and projects, Builder Passport / opportunities surfaces, navigation, forms, accessibility, light/dark mode, and general UI quality. You will improve the existing product safely — not redesign Africoders from scratch. What we're looking for Must-have practical experience with: • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript • React fundamentals (components, props, hooks, basic state) • Responsive web development • REST API consumption (fetch/Axios, JSON) • Git and GitHub Useful but not required: TypeScript, Tailwind, Vite, Laravel Blade, Playwright, GitHub Actions, accessibility basics, prior open-source or real-world contributions. We hire for learning ability and execution. Strong candidates can understand an unfamiliar codebase, turn a specification into a working interface, debug independently, take code review well, communicate clearly, and use AI coding tools responsibly — without rewriting working code unnecessarily. Duration & engagement • 2 months / 8 weeks • Internal Africoders internship • Primary stack: React · TypeScript/JavaScript · Vite · Tailwind/CSS · REST APIs · Git • Product: Africoders • Hiring owner: @dhtml How the 8 weeks work (summary) 1. Weeks 1–2 — Orientation, small UI fixes, first production contribution 2. Weeks 3–4 — Own a defined frontend feature with guidance 3. Weeks 5–6 — Larger feature with less supervision 4. Weeks 7–8 — Independent improvement project: discover → propose → build → ship → present Weekly rhythm: Monday planning, mid-week build/PRs, end-of-week demo and review. No unnecessary daily meetings. How to apply Apply on Africoders with: • Your Africoders profile / username • GitHub and portfolio links • Your current level and React experience • Why you want to join the Africoders engineering team • Confirmation you are available for the full 2 months Shortlisted candidates may complete a small 2–4 hour practical task and a short interview. This internship is part of the Africoders Builder journey: Join → Learn → Contribute → Ship → Prove → Grow. Your shipped work can become evidence on your Builder Passport.
