Imagine finding someone on Africoders who is learning the exact thing you’re trying to learn, or someone who has already solved the problem you’re currently fighting with. Or even someone looking for the skill you happen to have. That’s the part of a tech community that can’t really be planned. You just have to actually show up and talk to people.
One thing I’ve learnt about teaching is that knowing something and being able to explain it are two very different skills.

You can understand something perfectly and still explain it like you’re reading from the motherboard manual. 🤦🏿♂️ That’s why Week 6 of the Africoders Challenge is **Teach Us in One Minute**. Pick one useful thing you know and see if you can make someone else understand it in a minute.
Every tech community has that person who somehow knows the answer.
Every tech community has that person who somehow knows the answer. You ask one small question and they come back with a link, a screenshot, an explanation and somehow a solution you hadn’t even considered. That’s the kind of person I like seeing on Africoders. You don’t have to know everything. Just share what you know when you can. Someone else might be stuck exactly where you were five minutes ago.
There’s always that one app on your phone you’ve had for six months and still haven’t figured out what half the features do.
There’s always that one app on your phone you’ve had for six months and still haven’t figured out what half the features do. Meanwhile, the app keeps updating like, “Since you clearly have free time, here’s another feature.” 😄 Technology moves fast enough already. You don’t have to understand everything at once. If you’re curious about tech, building things, learning new skills or just trying to keep up, that’s what Africoders is for.
There’s a special kind of confidence that comes with saying:
There’s a special kind of confidence that comes with saying: “I know how to use this.” Then the software updates. Now the button has moved, the menu has changed, three settings have disappeared and you’re basically a beginner again. 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ Technology really said continuous learning whether we agreed to it or not. That’s part of what makes Africoders interesting. There’s always someone learning the thing you just discovered, or discovering the thing you haven’t met yet.

Sunday is probably the one day nobody wants a motivational speech from a tech community. So no “wake up and chase your dreams” today. 😂 Just a reminder that Africoders is there for the other side of tech too: interesting ideas, useful resources, random discoveries, things people are building and conversations you might actually enjoy. Take it easy. Have a look around when you feel like it.
You know you’re officially the tech person in the family when nobody asks if you can fix the problem.
You know you’re officially the tech person in the family when nobody asks if you can fix the problem. They just hand you the phone. “Something is wrong.” What something? Nobody knows. What did they press? Also nobody knows, but somehow, you’re now responsible. 😂 If you’re the family IT department, Africoders has people who understand your pain.
